Mindfulness

Wake Up is an active global community of young mindfulness practitioners, aged 18-35, inspired by the teachings of Zen Master and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh. We come together to practice mindfulness in order to take care of ourselves, nourish happiness and contribute to building a healthier and a more compassionate society.

A. Workshops

This retreat for young adults aged 18 – 35 built upon the impact of the 2023 programme, bringing together mindfulness practices, Dharma teachings, and community service to foster inner growth and collective wellbeing. Conducted in Hindi with English translation support, the retreat welcomed a vibrant group of participants, many of whom had attended the previous Jamun Village retreat. Participants immersed themselves in mindful living through meditation, noble silence, family group sharing, and service activities such as creating groves, building a greenhouse, and restoring the river area. The retreat concluded with participants feeling inspired and equipped with practical tools for mindful living, personal growth, and compassionate community engagement.

Ahimsa Trust organised a 4 day Wake Up Mindfulness retreat for young adults aged 18 to 35 years at the Stress and Well being Centre, Jamun Village in Dehradun with Talks, Q&A, circle sharing, sitting, walking and eating meditation. Groups worked together on small projects on Jamun Village land, a space of restorative peace and natural wonder. There were 70 participants from across different parts of India and Dehradun who joined us for this retreat. This was led by the teachers from Plum Village and DharmacharyaShantum. It was a powerful and transformative experience for all those who attended. Participants were also able to apply the mindfulness teachings and connect with the physical land of Jamun Village through working and service meditation, which included trail building, clearing litter from the river, and more. Throughout the workshop the facilitators shared their wisdom and teachings on the practice of mindfulness in everyday life. The retreat ended with a closing ceremony, at which participants shared their experiences and insights from the event. Many expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn and practice mindfulness in a beautiful setting, for the guidance and wisdom of the teachers and for the new friends and community they made together. The feedback was phenomenal. People want more and longer retreats with us which is wonderful.

A two day workshop was conducted at Kamala Nehru College on 21-22 March, 2023 by seven teachers and DharmacharyaShantum Seth. It was a gentle introduction to the practice of Mindfulness. The students were open and receptive to this new experience. The sessions included Guided Meditation, talks, mindful walking, eating, Deep Relaxation and Circle Sharing and question and answers. There were about 40 participants who attended this programme including Ahimsa team.
